Wicked Awesome Helicopter Ninjas 7 over Looking to Score 4

Looking To Score ceded its Commonwealth championship belt with a 7-4 loss to the Wicked Awesome Helicopter Ninjas in the semifinals.

The Mighty Ducks-esque prophecy revealed after Week #1 by Captain Paul of the Ninjas came true as the Ninjas avenged their first week loss to LTS. LTS, being so preoccupied with the offensive side of things, got exploited on defense right from the opening at bat. The Ninjas took a different approach in their second match up against the defending champions – not getting shut out. The runs came early and often with 4 runs in the first inning, including a 3-run home run by the always entertaining Ed.

LTS was stymied early as the Ninjas usual stingy defense was helped by some creative tipping of catches to other players by Brandon and Dave. Still, LTS got on the board, as BDO continued his stellar 2010 campaign with a solo home
run in the bottom of the 2nd and cut the lead to 4-1.

Extra runs were added throughout using small ball and one more home run by Nick, pushin the lead to 7-1. It stood that way until the bottom of the 5th when LTS's boots finally woke up. Kramer's one out double got LTS a much needed base runner and he advanced to third with two outs after a Little General flyout. BDO took a free pass and then Mike M connected on a run scoring hit to make it 7-2. Jay K brought one in on a single to get the deficit to 7-3. Beth drove Mike M in to make it 7-4 and bring the tying run to the plate. Alas, Nick's sky high flyball came down in the arms of a Ninja so kicball glory and a birth in the title game went to the Wicked Awesome Helicopter Ninjas.

Cheers to last year’s gracious champions, who despite being thwarted in their repeat attempts had a great season. Congratulations to Jason, Bethann, BDO, Chris, Chris, Jeff, Alina, Julia, Jay, Kate, Nick, Ben, Jen Michale, Mikara, Michale, Melanie, Richard, Sara and Vera.

PART IV: “But I'm one. I am one. And I can see. That this is me, And I will be. You'll all see. I'm the one.” The Who

Championship Game

CareScout 10 over Wicked Awesome Helicopter Ninjas 3

The CareScout team won their 1st WAKA championship as they put up 10 runs against the Ninjas. Three runs in the first, two runs in the second, and five runs in the fourth, proved to be insurmontable in the face of CareScout’s defense. The key for CareScout where pitcher Matt K dominated both pitching wise and in the field, thwarting the Ninjas at almost every turn. CareScout limited the Ninjas to three solo home runs, and with a total team effort prevented the Ninjas from getting runners on and making any kind of a rally. Kudos for Care Scout go to lead-off man Brett scoring his 100th run of the season/playoffs, and Sheshi, lifting a pretty single that scored a run to break the Ninjas backs.

Carescout won the game, but the Ninjas won the hearts of America, or more specifically, Waltham and perhaps, even more specifically, the people on that one block where the field is Paul and Nick both kicked home runs in the first inning, resulting in 80% of the Ninjas home runs for the season happening on that night. It was close for a while, but Carescout’s momentum and general team player ratio became too much. For some reason, Looking to Score dumped an ice cold cooler of water on Captain Paul’s head, which resulted in a terrible ice cream headache without the joy of the ice cream. In the end we were the only team with cake and we stole the championship trophy for a bit to take some pictures while Carescout wasn’t looking – so we all feel like winners
Both Captains were magnanimous in their praise for their opponents and the league after the game. CareScout Captain Dave stated, “Congratulations to the Ninja’s and WAKA officials for a great season” where as Wicked Awesome Helicopter Ninja’s Captain Paul offered a special shout out. “A special thanks from the Ninjas. Kudos to Dave, the unsung hero of the division newsletter/weekly recaps. Without him we wouldn't have a newsletter, photos, or 12 e-mails a week reminding us to submit each of those things.” Here here.

Congratulations to the Ninjas. Annemarie, Brandon, David, Mike, Susan, Christie, Jo, Katie, Kyla, Andrew, Lauren, Nick, Jason, Paige, Jen, Vinay, Rob, Katherine, and of course Captain Paul.
